History

In approximately 1952 a small asbestos shack was built on this block of land and was among the first in this area. The original house in this area is the old pebble home on the corner which was built in 1927 as a holiday home.

The Jetty was built in 1912 and although has been repaired over the years nevertheless is largely unchanged and has survived many storms over the past 100+ years.

In 1993 we purchased the 3 bedroom asbestos shack and some years later we built on to make it more suitable for the family to enjoy.

With the increasing size of our family and having enjoyed our shack for over 25 years it was time to demolish and rebuild. In February 2019 we farewelled our Pt Hughes shack with a dramatic 2 day 32 ton excavator making easy work of clearing the block and in the same month our new “shack” commenced. By Xmas 2019 the shack was completed and being much larger, we could now all fit in without any difficulty.

While this new home is much more comfortable and modern, nevertheless to the Steele family it will always be called “The Shack” because of the wonderful memories we have all had in our original home and hopefully will continue to have in this new place.
